What You're Doing Tonight: May 18th

NIA VARDALOS: Movie goers have likely been seeing lots of previews for "My Life in Ruins," a film from the actor behind the uber-successful "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"; the Greece-set travelogue/romance opens in June, but critic Stephen Farber is screening the flick early and chatting with the star at the Wadsworth. 7PM

STAIND: We're guessing you've been to a lot of parties where Staind was rocking the sound system, like, loud, while you leaned against a wall and talked -- yelled? -- philosophy with someone you had your eye on. Solid sounds born in the '90s, soaring choruses included. Local outfit Hoobastank is also on the bill. Club Nokia. 8PM.

FRANKLY: Cinebuffs see that one word -- "frankly" -- and they instantly know the film. How many movies have that kind of mojo? Frankly, we're guessing about five. AMPAS is paying tribute to the great works of 1939, one of the truly great years in cinema history. First up, of course, is "Gone with the Wind" on the big screen. We're giving a damn. 7:30PM, Samuel Goldwyn Theatre at the Academy.
