Weekend: Halloween Horror Nights Opens

"The Shining" and the Titans of Terror Tram are two of the teeth-chattering highlights of the 2017 maze-tacular.

Halloween Horror Nights: How much egging on do you need to enter one of the movie-quality mazes at Universal Studios Hollywood each fall? Well, depends on how much your knees quake, we suppose. Best find that courage and proceed to the seasonal scare event, which will include mazes for "The Shining," "Ash vs Evil Dead," "American Horror Story: Roanoke," "Saw: The Games of Jigsaw," "Insidious," a Blumhouse experience, and the Titans of Terror (and Titans of Terror Tram). It opens on Sept. 15 and continues to haunt, on select nights, through Saturday, Nov. 4.

More Halloween-y High Jinks: It's right around the middle of September when the macabre action steps up. Fright Fest at Six Flags Magic Mountain opens on Saturday, Sept. 16, while Halloweentime at Disneyland Resort debuts on Friday, Sept. 15. "Welcome to Haddonfield II" gives fans of "Halloween" a photo thrill, right in the South Pasadena neighborhood where the horror classic was filmed, from Sept. 16 through Halloween. And Son of Monsterpalooza shares eerie make-up tips in Burbank from Sept. 15 through 17.

Coastal Cleanup Day: Find your bucket, and some work gloves, and a few reusable bags, then make for a beach or riverbank or park in your neck o' the metropolis. The Saturday, Sept. 16 pitch-in event is called "the world's largest volunteer event," and tons upon tons of trash is removed from our beloved waterways. Help re-pristine your favorite stretch of sand by signing up now.

Art All Around: Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, a multi-institution "exploration of Latin American and Latino art," has launched, and over 50 museums are waiving admission on Sunday, Sept. 17 to celebrate. NuMu, the wee museum shaped like an egg, has finally arrived at the Los Angeles County Museum of art, after an epic journey. And "Brazen," a show from artist Kimberly Brooks, is enjoying its first thought-provoking week at Zevitas Marcus in Culver City.

Spider Pavilion opens: Peer at a web close-up — make that many, many webs — as a cadre of critters take up fascinating residence next to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles in Exposition Park. Will you spy a garden spider? Or a tarantula or golden silk spider? Things'll get mighty multi-legged from Sunday, Sept. 17 through Sunday, Nov. 26. Scurry this way for more webby must-knows.
