At Least 10 People Hurt in Knott's Berry Farm Accident

Authorities said 10 people were injured in a rollercoaster accident Thursday at Knott's Berry Farm in Orange County.

NBCLA learned from a contact at the scene the ride involved was the "Pony Express."  The Knott's website describes the ride as having "riders leave their post with their steed launching them at a speed of 0-38 mph in less than 3 seconds. The team covers a 1,300 foot route..."

Fire Authority Capt. Greg McKeown said the injuries were minor. He said two rollercoaster trains collided in the station where park guests board the ride.

Knott's spokeswoman Jennifer Blazey told the Orange County Register that a train leaving the station didn't make it over the first hill and rolled back into another train. One person who was getting into a waiting train and nine people on the train that rolled back were injured.

McKeown said the victims were taken to hospitals.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
