The new owner of the Forum in Inglewood announced a $100 million renovation plan on Tuesday, a major comeback for the venue and the city.
"This is going to bring back that pop, that sizzle to our city," Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts said.
It became known as the "Fabulous Forum" over the years, once serving as the home of the Showtime-era Lakers, the Kings, and every major music act from Elvis to the Rolling Stones.
Now, after years of neglect, The Madison Square Garden Company of New York hopes to return the Forum to its glory days.
"Our revitalization of the forum will create the largest indoor performance venue in the country with the focus on music and entertainment," executive chairman James Dolan said.
The $100 million price tag will pay for more seats, a new Forum Club, and a larger concession area, all built to attract the biggest names in the music industry.
The Eagles are planning a concert at the Forum in January to help mark the venue's comeback.
"I used to come to Kings games all the time, go to the Forum Club, it was so much fun," band member Glenn Frey said. "To think it's going to have a rebirth is really exciting."
The Madison Square Garden Company says the renovation will result in a $1.4 billion economic boon for the area over the next 30 years.
