A woman and her daughter escaped a fire that broke out in their apartment building in Granada Hills early Monday morning, killing the family pet, fire officials said.
The blaze erupted about 1 :15 a.m. in the 17000 block of Chatsworth Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 10 minutes. The family's cat died in the fire.
A woman and her young daughter managed to escape the burning two-floor apartment, officials said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
