Five men were in serious condition Friday night after two vehicles went over the side of the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway near Normandie Avenue in Gardena, according to Erik Scott, with LAFD.
Scott said the vehicles, one of which caught fire, fell about 50 feet down an embankment. Southbound lanes were backed up for miles, according to aerial footage of the scene.
Thirty-eight firefighters responded to the crash that occurred at about 9:40 p.m.
CHP officials say an investigation into the crash is underway, but preliminary information suggests wreckless driving may have been a factor.
