A van used by a Caltrans litter cleanup crew and a big rig were involved in a crash Wednesday that closed lanes on the eastbound 60 Freeway in the Diamond Bar area.
A Caltrans spokesperson told NBC4 a Caltrans maintenance worker and three probation maintenance workers were injured. A Los Angeles County Fire Department urban search and rescue unit extricated the trapped big rig driver.
The big rig ended up in trees off the side of the freeway. The fire-rescue crew used a ladder to transport the driver from the cab across a ditch to the side of the road.
The workers, in the van at the time of the crash, suffered injuries to their faces and necks, according to the spokesperson. Details regarding the victims' conditions were not immediately available, but the injuries are considered non-life threatening.
The crash nvolved at least four vehicles east of the Grand Avenue exit. Several ambulances responded to the location.
Details regarding the duration of the freeway closure were not immediately available.
