A bus driver crashed on the 10 Freeway on Tuesday night after possibly falling asleep or suffering a medical emergency at the wheel, according to officials and a passenger.
Eight people were taken to nearby hospitals after the crash, some with potentially serious injuries.
The crash occurred about 8:40 p.m. on the westbound 10 Freeway near the 710, causing a major traffic backup. Lanes were reopened shortly before 11 p.m.
Initial reports from the California Highway Patrol indicated that a Foothill Transit driver fell asleep and crashed into the median. A passenger, however, said that the bus driver had what appeared to be an asthma attack while driving in the moments leading up to the crash.
Aerial footage showed a severe traffic back up after the collision.
