An elderly woman was killed and another woman was injured Sunday when an elderly driver crashed into the pair while leaving a church parking lot in Port Hueneme.
Odessa Edwards, 79, had just left a service at the First Assembly of God Church around 12:30 p.m. when she struck the two women, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
Edwards' vehicle crashed through a cinderblock wall and into a nearby home's backyard. Maria McCroskey, 60, was dragged on the hood of the vehicle.
“I see the old lady lying on the ground,” said neighbor Javier Isidoro. “Me and the other gentleman from the church were doing the CPR. CPR for like 10 minutes."
McCroskey died at the scene.
Another woman injured in the crash suffered a broken hip and leg.
