Benedict Canyon Boulevard to Reopen After Water Main Project

A nearly 60-year-old water main was replaced with a new steel pipe

A one-mile section of water pipeline in Benedict Canyon has been replaced, opening the road connecting Beverly Hills to the San Fernando Valley more than one month ahead of schedule.

Traffic was blocked most days on the key route since May 1, and the project was anticipated to take until Nov. 1. Drivers had been warned that the road would be blocked off south of Mulholland Drive.

About one mile of almost-60-year-old water main along Benedict Canyon Boulevard has been replaced with a new steel pipe. But the project is done now, two months early, according to City Councilman Paul Koretz and officials from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Officials plan a news conference to announce the re-opening of the road at 8 a.m. Monday, at the fire station at the corner of Mulholland Drive at Benedict Canyon Boulevard.
