Police Seize Bogus Disneyland Tickets Sold Through Craigslist

Victims contacted a reporter who called police about the possible scam

Police are investigating whether two people from Northern California were involved in selling phony Disneyland tickets through Craigslist in a scam authorities credited a reporter with uncovering.

The case broke Tuesday when a reporter from the Modesto Bee tipped police off to a potential scam by a 33-year-old woman from Ceres, a community near Modesto, Calif.

The reporter said parkgoers had called her saying that when they arrived at the Southern California theme park the tickets they had purchased from the woman were not valid, police said in a press release.

Information describing a similar situation involving the suspect was also found to be circulating on social media, police said.

Police quickly connected two prior incidents involving phony Disneyland tickets on Craigslist in May to two suspects who had outsanding warrants.

One man was cited and a woman, identified as Jessica Melendez, 33, of Ceres, was booked into jail on a misdemeanor charge.

Police said they seized multiple printed Disneyland tickets from a home.
