A 7-year-old boy died in the hospital Tuesday night after he was shot while sitting in a parked vehicle one night earlier in West Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The boy's mother and a 31-year-old man were also injured in the shooting on Monday night. They were both in stable condition at the hospital Tuesday, said LAPD Detective Gus Villanueva.
Authorities have reported no arrests in the shooting on South Corning Street (map). Police are attempting to determine whether the gunfire came from another vehicle and into the victims' black Dodge Charger, which had several shattered windows.
Investigators found "numerous shell casings" at the scene, according to Los Angeles police. One of the victims drove the others to the hospital, police said.
The boy suffered a gunshot wound to the back. The mother suffered a leg injury in the shooting.
"When are we going to get tired and start working together to rid ourselves of crime in the community," said LAPD Sgt. Cleon Joseph. "Someone in the community should be upset."
Police said four black males wearing black hooded jackets were seen driving off in a white car.
