A pursuit ended with a spinout Wednesday after California Highway Patrol officers chased a driver wanted for a carjacking on freeways and streets northwest of Los Angeles.

A CHP officer trailing the subject used his patrol vehicle to execute a PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) maneuver, causing the driver to lose control and spin out at an exit off the 118 Freeway in Granada Hills. The shirtless driver was taken into custody after exiting the white sedan and surrendering to officers.
The pursuit began at about 11:30 a.m. PT on the southbound 5 Freeway after a traffic stop during which officers determined the car was stolen. A carjacking victim called authorities to report the vehicle stolen, but details regarding the carjacking were not immediately available.
Speeds on the 118 Freeway reached about 100 mph before the male driver exited onto surface streets in the Granada Hills area. The driver returned to the freeway and entered the Simi Valley area, then circled back to Granada Hills.
The driver passed several vehicles on the right shoulder of the 118 Freeway and swerved across lanes of traffic.
CHP officers on the ground and an aerial unit followed the car.
