Heaps of mulch are burning near the Camarillo Airport Thursday night, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
The blaze consumed about a half acre by 9 p.m., authorities said. It was not immediately known how the fire, which started about 5 p.m., was sparked.
No structures appeared to be threatened by the blaze, though plumes of smoke could be seen for miles.
No injuries have been reported.
Authorities are unsure how long it will take for the fire to be extinguished.
