A catering truck crashed into a tree in Los Angeles Saturday, leaving three women critically injured in an area buzzing with bees, a fire official said.
The truck crashed after noon in the Hollywood Hills, just north of Sunset Boulevard in the 1100 block of North Doheny Drive, according to Margaret Stewart with the Los Angeles Fire Department. Firefighters from the Los Angeles city and county fire departments rescued the three women trapped in the truck.
All three were in critical condition and taken to a hospital.
Initial reports indicated that a fourth person, a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy, had been taken to the hospital. Stewart later said the deputy had suffered a minor allergic reaction to a bee sting and was not taken by ambulance.
The truck had crashed into a tree with a beehive, and a "large amount of bees" were in the area, Stewart said in an email.
