Caught on Camera: Grinch Steals Christmas Decorations From Family's Lawn

The family bought the decorations just days before they were stolen, but says the theft won’t dampen their Christmas spirit.

A 3-year-old Southern California girl spent Thursday wondering where her friends Mickey and Minnie had gone, after a thief plucked the Christmas characters from her family’s front lawn in Corona.

Last weekend, the Nazar family purchased Mickey and Minnie Mouse Christmas decorations – and OIivia had gotten used to seeing them in the yard every day. But that all changed Thursday.

“She said, ‘Mommy, Mickey is missing,’ and I said ‘Gosh, you are right!’” her mother Alissa Nazar told NBC4.

That prompted the Nazar family to look at their surveillance camera footage. That’s where they discovered that thieves had stolen the decorations about 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

The footage showed a Honda Accord-looking car pulling up to the front of the house. The thief exited the passenger side, ran across the lawn, cut the line tethering the decoration, stuffed it into the back of the car, and then drove off.

“Normally petty stuff like that doesn’t bother me, but because it was for the kids and we just bought it and they looked forward to seeing it every night, that’s what bothered me the most,” Nazar said.

The Nazar family has filed a police report. They don’t think they will get the decorations back, but hope their story will deter other potential thieves from committing such actions.

And though the thieves may have stolen the Nazar family’s Christmas decorations, what they can never steal is their Christmas spirit.

“We are just looking forward to Christmas. [The theft is] not going to get us down,” Nazar said.
