Father, 4-Year-Old Daughter Hospitalized After Shooting at Covina Home

Police responded to a report of a home invasion at the home in the 300 block of South Cedar Drive

A 4-year-old girl and her father were hospitalized with gunshot wounds Friday after a violent home invasion robbery in Covina, according to a spokesman for the city's police department.

Shortly after noon, a man rang the doorbell at a home in the 300 block of South Cedar Drive and when the residents opened the door, the intruder let himself in, said Sgt. Ray Marquez, with the Covina Police Department.

Once inside, the attacker grabbed jewelry. How the robbery escalated into a shooting remains unclear, Marquez said.

The victims' wounds do not appear to be life-threatening and the pair is expected to survive, according to a police sergeant on scene.

The father, a man in his early 20s, was shot through the upper torso, the sergeant said. His 4-year-old daughter suffered a bullet wound to her leg.

It appears that the father-daughter pair was visiting a friend who lived at the home, which is owned by a Korean War veteran, neighbors said.

Police confirmed there have been other break-ins in the Covina neighborhood, about 20 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, but those intrusions have not been as violent as Friday's attack.
