A military aircraft became disabled on a runway at Long Beach Airport late Friday morning, prompting a halt of all commercial air traffic there for about five hours.
At least two inbound flights were diverted and other flights were delayed as Long Beach Fire Department personnel worked to remove the Air Force T-38 training jet, which blew out both tires upon landing about 11:15 a.m., according to the airport's Cassie Chauvel.
No one aboard the jet was injured. The airport's secondary runway was cleared, allowing the resumption of flights, by about 4 p.m., the airport announced via Twitter. Travelers or those expecting to pick up arriving passengers were advised to contact their airlines about schedule changes. The two diverted flights came from Salt Lake City.
A Delta flight landed at Los Angeles International Airport and a Jet Blue flight at Ontario International Airport, according to the airport's Twitter account.
