Music producer and entrepreneur Andre "Dr. Dre" Young was briefly handcuffed after deputies responded to a report of a confrontation outside his Malibu home.
Young was accused of pointing a gun at a man Monday morning outside the home on Pacific Coast Highway, authorities said. The man told deputies the rapper pointed a gun at him and told him to leave while he was stopped in his car on PCH, according to the department.
Young told deputies the man was in front of his home, blocking his driveway, and that he asked the man to leave.
The 51-year-old artist was searched, handcuffed and briefly detained in a patrol car while deputies investigated the claims, according to the sheriff's department. Deputies said Young was cooperative with deputies and consented to a search.
Young claimed the man drove away after the initial encounter, but immediately returned and parked near the same location. Young said he pulled out his cellphone and started recording the man, who then drove away, and denied threatening the man, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
The man insisted Young had a handgun, but a weapon was not found at the scene, authorities said.
Young was not arrested or taken into custody by deputies, but the other man initiated a private person's arrest of Young for misdemeanor brandishing a firearm, according to the sheriff's department. Young received a citation and was not transported to the station.
