A fire destroyed a three-story, hillside home in Woodland Hills over the weekend, displacing three people and causing an estimated $1 million in damage, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The blaze began shortly before 8 p.m. at 5219 Calatrana Drive. Flames engulfed the home and threatened neighboring homes and brush by the time firefighters arrived, according to a fire department statement.
After firefighters spent about 30 minutes trying to douse the flames, aided by water-dropping helicopters, they retreated, fearing the house was going to collapse - which it did.
High temperatures, low water pressure and cramped roadways hindered the 147 firefighters on the scene, according to the statement written by LAFD spokeswoman Katherine Main. One firefighter received minor injuries and was treated and released to go back to work at the scene.
The house belonged to actress Tanya George, known for her roles in Star Trek and other television shows.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
