A fire spread quickly through a vacant 20,000-square-foot bowling alley Tuesday afternoon and sent thick black smoke over San Bernardino
About 100 firefighters responded at about noon to the sprawling building -- about half the size of a football field -- near Highland and Western avenues (map). The fast-moving five-alarm fire caused a roof collapse, preventing firefighters from entering the building.
No injuries have been reported.
Aerial video showed at least two ladder trucks spraying water on the fire high above the building's roof, which collapsed as the fire spread throughout the structure. Other firefighters were on the ground at several of the building's entrances.
Details regarding a cause were not immediately available. The fire continued to burn at 1 p.m.
"This fire is under investigation and is deemed suspicious," said San Bernardino Fire Chief George Avery.
