A big rig fire ignited about two acres of brush along the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway in the Hacienda Heights area Thursday, snarling traffic during the evening rush.
The blaze was reported about 4:30 p.m. near Crossroads Parkway, just east of the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Firefighters assisted by aerial water-drops responded in force and doused the fire by 5:30 p.m. The blaze scorched about two acres of vegetation on a hillside adjacent to the freeway, but no injuries were reported, a fire dispatcher said.
Eastbound lanes were closed and traffic was backed up to east Los Angeles during the height of the blaze. All but two lanes and the Crossroads Parkway on-ramp remained closed as firefighters mopped up. Westbound traffic also was briefly halted and was backed up to Fairway Drive in Industry over an hour after the fire was reported.
