Firefighters responded to a blaze in a multi-story apartment building in Westwood around 8:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fire broke out in one of 46 units at the Wilshire Manor Apartments in the 10600 block of Wilshire Boulevard.
The "stubborn" fire took until around 9:30 p.m. to extinguish.
Wilshire was closed between Westholme and Manning avenues as more than 100 firefighters battled the blaze.
Firefighters assisted with a "handful" of evacuations and residents who have been asked to shelter in their apartments, according to LAFD.
Many were asked to stay in their apartments because they were elderly, and could not be moved quickly.
"We did not want to get those people into the elements of smoke and heat when they're not as mobile as perhaps another segment of our population," said Assistant Chief Tim Manning.

There was one reported injury, although it was not immediately clear the nature of the injury or the cause.
Six units were damaged, and a cost estimate has not yet been determined. The cause has not yet been determined, but firefighters said it did begin in an area with some electrical equipment.
