It turns out Miramonte Elementary School, in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood, had been the scene of at least one other child abuse scandal prior to the current ordeal.
Ricardo Guevara, a former teacher's aide at Miramonte Early Education Center, was convicted in 2005 of committing lewd acts with children. He was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
Guevara had been the subject of improper behavior allegations dating back to 1995. But it was a case from 2003 that led to his conviction.
There is no clear indication that the Guevara case had any direct relationship to the two ongoing lewd conduct cases, involving Miramonte teachers Mark Berndt and Martin Springer.
The Guevara case ultimately led to civil litigation that resulted in a $1.6 million court judgement against the Los Angeles Unified School District, with three young victims collecting the court award.
