Off-Duty Fullerton Police Officer Attacked in Placentia

An off-duty Fullerton police officer was wounded Saturday by a suspect who stabbed him in Placentia, authorities said.

The attack was at about 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Kraemer and Yorba Linda boulevards, Fullerton police said.

The officer was conducting personal business when he suspect attacked him with a sharp object and fled on foot, police said.

The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment of his wounds, which were serious, but not life-threatening, police said.

The suspect was described as male, late teens or early 20s, wearing all dark clothing.

The Placentia Police Department said that an extensive search involving the Fullerton Police Department, Orange County Sheriff's Department and Cal State Fullerton Police Department led to the detainment and arrest of a parolee named James Carrera, 19, of Placentia.

However, the Placentia Police cleared and released Carrera later on Saturday night, stating that the person responsible for the attack remains at large.
