Sheriff's homicide detectives were investigating the death of a man whose body was found along the rocky shoreline in Playa del Rey on Sunday night.
The body was found about 7:20 p.m. in the waters near 6100 block of Ballona Creek, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The Los Angeles Fire Department initially reported that human remains had been found. Deputies later said they were investigating the death of a man.
Detectives believe the victim may have spent days or weeks floating out in the ocean because the body was badly decomposed.
Authorities were unclear if it was an accidental drowning or if there was foul play involved.
