A robber with a knife threatened a Subway restaurant employee before fleeing with cash Wednesday morning, Santa Ana police said in a press release.
Police said a female employee was alone in the businesses in the 2600 block of West Edinger Avenue (map) when a man came in through the front door around 6:40 a.m. She told police the man jumped the counter, forced her to the floor and demanded to know where the safe was.
When the employee told the attacker she didn’t know the location of the safe, the man pulled out a folding knife and asked the woman, “Do you want to die?” Fearing for her life, the employee showed the robber to the safe.
The robber took cash from the safe, then forced the employee to open the cash register, police said. He then took off with an undisclosed amount of money.
The assailant was described as a white or Hispanic man, between 25 and 30 years old, 5-foot-10 to 6-foot-1 inches tall, 175 to 200 pounds, with a medium build.
He was wearing a black sweatshirt, possibly with “So Cali” lettering on the front, with the hood over his head. He covered the bottom portion of his face with a bandana and wore sunglasses, black pants and white sneakers, police said.
