Lanes Shut Down on 405 Freeway After Fatal Crash

Four lanes were closed on the 405 Freeway after a multi-car crash that killed one person and injured four others Tuesday morning in Irvine, officials said.

The crash, which involved four vehicles, was reported around 1:30 a.m. near Culver Avenue on the southbound 405 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol. One person died at the scene and four people were injured, according to the CHP.

The woman killed in the crash was identified by the coroner's office as 54-year-old Rieko Toyama of Gardena.

The conditions of the injured crash victims was unknown.

A driver and passenger of a 2014 BMW, both 29 years old, were taken to UCI Medical Center.

Another driver, age 74, and passenger, age 71, in a 2008 Mercedes were taken to OC Global Medical Center.

It was unknown what led up to the crash, according to the CHP.
