A house fire in Long Beach left a firefighter with burns to his back and neck, officials said Tuesday morning.
About 50 firefighters responded to a heavy smoke and flames at a vacant two-story house in the 1400 block of Atlantic Avenue shortly after 4 a.m., extinguishing the blaze in about 30 minutes, a Long Beach Fire Department spokesman said.
One firefighter was taken to the hospital to be treated for first and second degree burns to his back and neck.
Although the house was vacant at the time of the blaze, fire officials said in a statement that they found "evidence of homeless occupancy."
The blaze is the second fire the house has endured this year, authorities said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
