Major Power Outage at LAX; Lights Are Back on Now

Power outages plunged all passenger terminals at Los Angeles International Airport into relative darkness for about 90 minutes Wednesday, but no flights were affected.

The malfunction of two transformers about 4 p.m. resulted in temporary power outages, but the traffic control tower operations were not affected, said Nancy Castles of Los Angeles World Airports, the agency which operates the
airport.

The outage occurred during a slow operational period, Castles said.

No flight delays were anticipated as Department of Water and Power crews worked to determine what caused the outages. As of 5:30 p.m., authorities expected all power to be restored soon.
