Demi Moore in ‘Absolute Shock' After Man Drowns in Her Backyard Pool

Demi Moore says she's in "absolute shock" over the death of a 21-year-old man in her backyard pool in Los Angeles.

The 52-year-old actress says in a statement released through her publicist Sunday that she's out of the country and wasn't home at the time but the death at a party hosted by her assistant is an "unthinkable tragedy."

The man, identified as Edenilson Steven Valle of Los Angeles, was found drowned Sunday in the backyard pool of the actress' home, officials said. Valle's family and friends told investigators he didn't know how to swim.

Moore was not at home and not involved in Valle's death, a police officer at the Los Angeles Police Department's West Los Angeles station confirmed, adding that the department was conducting an investigation.

Five people were at the home at the time of the drowning, according to Sgt. A. Bone of the West Los Angeles station. One of the five people present was an assistant to Moore, Bone said.

Los Angeles County coroner's Lt. Fred Corral says Valle had gone missing for 10 or 15 minutes before his friends found him floating in the deep end of the pool Sunday morning. A technician from the Coroner's Office was dispatched to the scene at 6:55 a.m., Corral said.
