A UCLA football player who was fatally struck by a car on Sept. 8 was mourned Sunday at a funeral service in San Clemente.
Nick Pasquale, a wide receiver for the Bruins, died after being struck on Camino De Los Mares near Calle Nuevo in San Clemente. The driver remained at the scene and called police, and was not suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Pasquale, who was 5 feet, 7 inches tall, was a walk-on freshman for the team known as a hard worker and a scrappy competitor.
UCLA head football coach said last week that Pasquale was "an outstanding young man who had a positive impact on everyone who knew him."
In lieu of gifts, the family has asked mourners to donate to the Nick Pasquale Foundation, which will use donations to support athletes who demonstrate "extreme effort and leadership on their sport's team," charitable groups influencing sports or athletes who need grants or scholarships to pursue their dreams, according to the foundation's website.
