More than 70 cats were removed Monday from the apartment of a woman in San Bernardino at the center of an animal hoarding case.
Chris Slater said she reached out to animal rescue groups, but no organizations said they would come and take the cats.
Neighbors complained that the cats attracted flies and left an odor.
"I wasn't fighting dogs or something bad," Slater said.
"We were trying to find a local rescue. Even one in San Jose. They did not want to take the time," said Yvonne Rice, the woman's friend and neighbor.
Slater was not charged or cited because she gave up the cats.
She hopes the cats are all adopted to good homes.
