Which Film is Your State Rooting For? The Most-Googled Oscar Nominees for Best Picture by State

Which film nominated for best picture was the top pick in each state according to Google Trends? The answer might surprise you.

With the 91st Academy Awards just around the corner, US Direct used Google Trends to find out which states were googling Oscar-nominated films for best picture the most.

The eight nominees for best picture include: "Black Panther," "Blackkklansman," "Bohemian Rhapsody," "The Favourite," "Green Book," "Roma," "A Star is Born" and "Vice."

"Black Panther" was the biggest box-office hit of all the nominees with over $700 million, but that didn't make it the most-searched. 

"Bohemian Rhapsody" was the most searched film in California and in half of all states. The Google search analysis started when the list of Oscar nominees was annonuced in January.

Here are some interesting facts about the nominees:

• "Black Panther" is the first superhero movie to be a best picture nomination.
• Five of the eight films nominated this year all have a common theme of facing racism and segregation.
• "Roma" won in New Jersey, New York, and Texas — all states with high Latino populations.
