A motorcycle and vehicle crashed in Malibu Saturday, closing an important artery to Pepperdine University on a very high-traffic day, authorities said.
One person, the motorcyclist, was airlifted with unspecified injuries from the site of the 11 a.m. collision, Malibu Canyon Road and Harbor Vista Drive, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. Malibu Canyon Road was closed in both directions.
The intersection is about one mile from Pepperdine University, whose Seaver College was holding graduation Saturday. Lt. Jennifer Seetoo advised avoiding the area.
Graduation began at 10:30 a.m., according to a university public safety officer who said drivers may be forced to take Pacific Coast Highway after the graduation ceremony if the road doesn't reopen in time.
