Four Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies were injured Friday morning when their patrol car crashed into a power pole in Pico Rivera.
The four deputies were en route to help two fellow deputies after receiving a call that the pair was in an altercation with a vehicle thief, said Sgt. Sean Geske of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Pico Rivera station.
The driver crashed into a power pole on Passons Boulevard and Mines Avenue about 12:50 a.m. Friday, Geske said.
Two deputies who were in the front of the car during the crash had superficial injuries. They were treated at a hospital and released.
The two deputies in the backseat remained hospitalized Friday afternoon. One female deputy had a leg and head injury, and a male deputy had a serious arm injury, officials said.
Video from the scene showed a patrol cruiser with a smashed windshield after it sheared the utility pole at its base. Chunks of glass were scattered across the street, and a crew from Southern California Edison was at the scene to make repairs.
Crews had to replace the power pole damaged by the crash, forcing neighborhood SoCal Edison customers to be without power until late Friday afternoon, said Tom Stearns, operations supervisor for SoCal Edison.

The two deputies who called for assistance were not hurt, and the suspect with whom they struggled was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, drug possession, battery on a peace officer and for having outstanding warrants, Geske said.
By noon Friday, power had been restored to all customers affected by the outage, said Vanessa McGrady, with SoCal Edison.
