Two Los Angeles police officers shot and wounded a man in Hollywood early Sunday, said police, who closed part of Hollywood Boulevard for their investigation.
The shooting occurred just after 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Cherokee Avenue, according to Los Angeles Police Department representatives. Officers saw a man point a gun at a group of men when the officer-involved shooting occurred, according to detective Meghan Aguilar.
The man with the gun was struck by gunfire and taken to a hospital, Aguilar said. The group fled and police were searching for them.
Police later identified the man with a gun as Tegan James Stephans, 33, of Las Vegas. He was in stable condition Sunday at around noon and has been booked on a charge of exhibiting a firearm in the presence of a police officer, according to an LAPD news release.
The officers patrolling the area on foot came upon the scene after hearing an argument in a parking lot, Aguilar said. They saw Stephens allegedly pull a firearm from the back of a white SUV in the parking lot and following three men he had been arguing with. Police initially said it was a group of four to six men.
A firearm was located at the scene, Aguilar said.
No officers were hurt in the shooting.
