A petroleum fire at an oil field Friday sent thick black smoke over part of Ventura County.
The crude oil storage tank fire extended to brush in the community of Fillmore, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. The brush fire was contained by midday, but smoke continued to billow from the tanks into the afternoon.
It was not immediately clear how the fire started.
Authorities are monitoring air quality in the area. The fire will likely burn out sometime Friday afternoon, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
No homes are threatened.
