1 Dead in Pomona Fairplex Plane Crash

Plane was heading toward Brackett Field Airport

A single-engine plane heading toward Brackett Field Airport crashed about one mile short of the runway, killing the pilot according to an FAA spokesman.

The plane, a single-engine Mooney M20M, crashed at 2:15 p.m. on a track at the Pomona Fairplex.

The pilot was the only person onboard the plane. The LA County Coroner is waiting for the NTSB to finish it's initial investigation so it can remove the body and identify the pilot.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this time, Ian Gregor of the FAA Pacific Division.

A preliminary National Transportation Safety Board report is expected within a week or two, although it can takes months for the organization to determine a probable cause for the crash, said Gregor.
