More than 2,000 homes were left without electricity after a driver plowed into a power pole at high speed in Santa Ana late Thursday.
He smashed his Jaguar into multiple palm trees before knocking over the pole on West Dahl Lane and South Fairview Street at around 11:37 p.m, a Santa Ana Police Department spokesman said.
The driver was hospitalized with moderate injuries, and is in stable condition. Investigators said speed was the only factor in the crash, and drunken driving was not involved.
A SoCal Edison spokesman said 2,340 were initally left without power, though they managed to restore electricity to 810 of those by 3 a.m. According to the company's website, 589 were still without power just before 5 a.m.
McFadden Avenue and South Fairview Street are completely closed while repairs to the downed power lines are carried out.
