The driver of a big rig cab was taken into custody Monday morning after leading officers on a pursuit that temporarily shut down the northbound 15 Freeway between Victorville and Barstow, the California Highway Patrol said.
Officers received a call about 8 a.m. from a woman who reported that her friend had been taken against her will by a man she was romantically involved with, the San Bernardino Police Department said.
Police tracked down the cab and attempted to stop the driver, but he refused to pull over, officers said.
With CHP officers close behind him, the driver continued on the 215 Freeway to the northbound 15 Freeway.
Officers used a spike strip to blow out the tractor's front tires. The driver stopped about 9:40 a.m. near Wild Wash Road, where the woman fled to officers.
The man remained inside the car and refused to surrender. Police say he suffered a self-inflicted wound.
"Officers used less lethal methods to gain entrance into the truck tractor and take the subject into custody," officers said in a news release.
The driver was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital. His name was not released.
