Residents of a Pacific Palisades neighborhood described what sounded like an explosion when a driver went airborne and crashed his SUV into a wall, coming to rest just short of a home Tuesday night.
The crash took place on Sunset Boulevard near Rustic Creek Lane, a winding stretch of road lined by homes. The 44-year-old driver of the Chevrolet TrailBlazer was rushed to the hospital in unknown condition.
Slick roads from light rainfall and speed may have contributed to the crash, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
"I'm still shaking, it was like a bomb," said neighbor Ora Tarashangegan. "We were all in the house with the kids."
Neighbors say drivers are constantly speeding on Sunset Boulevard and accidents become more frequent on the sharp curves near Rustic Creek Lane when it rains.
