A SWAT team surrounded a West Los Angeles apartment building overnight Sunday morning as a officers searched for a man seen shooting a gun in a residential area Saturday night.
Police detained a person they believed to be the gunman at about 6:45 a.m., a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said. Officers were waiting for a search warrant to search the gunman's apartment.
The arrest came 9 hours after a person walking near Texas and Brockton avenues saw a person shooting a gun at about 9:40 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Officers called to the scene observed the same thing and closed off the area, police said, then called in the SWAT team.
By 4:30 a.m., police narrowed their search for the gunman to an apartment building on 1300 Brockton Avenue, after hearing what sounded like a muffled gunshot in the complex, police said.
The complex was evacuated; the gunman may have barricaded him- or herself in an apartment, police said.
