A passenger who ended an argument Sunday by jumping out of a vehicle traveling at 65 mph was hospitalized with major injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 24-year-old Corona man -- whose identity was not released -- was sitting in the backseat of Shawna Welch's Toyota Scion XB while traveling on northbound I-15 near Corona, according to CHP. The two, whose relationship was described as "intimate," were having a "verbal domestic dispute," said CHP officer Sylvia Vargas.
Shortly after 1:30 a.m., the man jumped out of the car, said Vargas.
Welch immediately pulled the car to the side of the road and rendered first aid, said Vargas. The 20-year-old Anaheim woman had no cell phone service, and eventually started "waving down traffic," Vargas said.
The man was taken to Riverside Community Hospital.
Welch was booked at Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, Vargas said. It was unclear if the passenger had been drinking.
