A homeless woman suspected of torching a South Los Angeles homeless camp, damaging a building next to it, has been taken into custody with the help of surveillance video, arson investigators said Tuesday.
Security cameras were rolling last Thursday outside the Naked Zebra clothing company at 39th and Main streets when the suspect set fire to the encampment.
The woman seen setting belongings on fire is 36-year-old transient Alejandra Dovale, said Capt. Daniel Curry of the Los Angeles Fire Department. She was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of arson.
The Naked Zebra fire started around the same time and in the same area where fire crews battled half a dozen arson fires.
"Any fire that starts in an innocent area, could eventually burn a building down, injure a person, kill a person," Curry said.
No one was hurt in the six arson fires.
"We suspect her of the one fire," Curry said. "There was a succession of rubbish fires in that area, that morning. We are looking into if she is involved in any of the other fires."
