An 18-year-old man was found dead in his family's townhome after a fight that ended with a stabbing Thursday morning in Sylmar, officials said.
Authorities responded to the 14000 block of Astorian Street in the San Fernando Valley townhome community at about 9 a.m.
Officers found blood outside a residence before finding the 18-year-old's "lifeless body" inside the home, LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon said.
A 17-year-old friend was insistent that something bad had happened to his friend inside the town house, police said.
"The friend was not specific about what was wrong or even how he knew, but he was insistent," Vernon said. "Officers believed it was a life-or-death emergency so they forced entry."
The victim lived in the town house with his mother and siblings, but they were not home when the man was killed, police said.
"But it is clear the victim knew his assailant or assailants," Vernon said. "We’re asking anyone with information to call us."
