Two women were killed and three others injured early Sunday in a solo-car crash on the Pasadena (110) Freeway in the northeast Los Angeles area of Monterey Hills, authorities said.
A Nissan Sentra crashed near the Avenue 52 exit at 1:30 a.m., said Katherine Main, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman.
The five women were between 18 and 22-years-old, Main said.
One of those women was 23-year-old Ana Caudra, a recent college graduate who was just days shy of her 24th birthday.
She and her girlfriends were driving home from a birthday celebration when the car crashed into a fence and hit a tree.
Caudra was a mother to a 2-year-old boy and the youngest of her siblings.
The driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. She was the only person in the car who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, officials said.

Firefighters cut the injured women from the wreckage, and Main tweeted on the LA Fire Department twitter page that three were transported to a hospital in serious condition, but the two others were "beyond help."
CHP officers reopened all northbound lanes of the freeway shortly after 5 a.m.
