A man was arrested on suspicion of murder Monday after he was accused of intentionally running down a jogger, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
The jogger was struck from behind, deputies said.
The driver, identified by authorities as an adult male, was detained after the crash, reported at about 6 a.m. in the 20200 block of Barnard Avenue in Walnut. The jogger was struck from behind by a Toyota Camry that came to a stop after slamming through a wall in front of a corner residence, according to the sheriff's department.
Deputies arrived at the scene after a call from the homeowner, Lijin Li. Li was startled out of bed when he heard the car crash into the brick wall in his backyard.
According to him, the shocked driver told Li to call 911 and chanted "my God, my God." He added that the driver did not appear to know the jogger.
The victim, who was jogging in a bike lane, was carried on the car's hood for several yards, according to investigators. The victim died at the scene.
Authorities said the individual detained after the crash remained at the scene and was not injured.

The identity of the victim will not be released until the family is notified.
