Police took a driver suspected of DUI into custody after he attempted to urinate following a hour-long standoff that was preceded by an erratic police chase on the freeway and streets near downtown LA Monday afternoon.
During the standoff, he was sitting in his truck, sipping beverages while officers fired nonlethal rounds at his truck, shattering windows.
Reports of the chase came in around 4:20 p.m., with officers suspecting the driver of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The truck clipped several other vehicles in traffic during the pursuit.
The driver ran red lights and at one point was splitting lanes between the HOV and other lanes on the 110 Freeway.
Officers tried several times to attempt a PIT maneuver in the midst of heavy traffic. They also attempted to stop him by ramming into the truck, but each time the driver was able to get away.
Officers also deployed a spike strip after he pulled into a gas station, but the truck drove right over it and kept on going.
