Crenshaw Student Shares Spotlight With President

Teenager is chosen to lead the pledge at Obama rally

"I got sort of nervous because I've never done anything like this in front of so many people."

That's what 14-year-old Esaul Parra said about the moment he learned he'd be playing a major role at the President's Rally lon October 22 at USC.

Parra was in his Dress ROTC Uniform when he lead the Pledge of Allegiance at  President Obama's Rally. Parra is a sophomore at Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles and a member of the Crenshaw Digital Media Team sponsored by Apple Distinguished Educator Daphne Bradford.

Parra, along with 17 of  Bradford's other students, recently visited the White House where they met with President Obama's web team, the President's Personal Assistant Reggie Love and Sam Kass, White House Chef and Healthy Foods Initiative Adviser.

When rally organizer Mary Jane Stevenson asked Bradford whom she might recommend, who might be well-spoken enough, Bradford said Parra came right to mind.

Parra said he was honored to represent his fellow Crenshaw students, teacher Bradford and his sister Diana. He said he's also proud to be there on behalf of his Crenshaw Marine Corps Junior Reserve.
